Pokemon - Swamp Champ

Because even a mudkip can evolve into a total badass.

Anyways, wanted to do some ink practice with Manga Studio, and since I've had this little idea for a Pokemon related art piece, I decided to go ahead and use it as my guinea pig of sorts. Could of did a little better job thinning and bulking up the lines in a few areas, but for my first ever success digital inks, it's not a bad start.

3D Character Animation and Set-Up Projects pt.1

As promised, here are my animations from 3D Character Animation and Set-up. At least the first two since I may have to upload my third video somewhere else due to YouTube's policies on certain copyrighted music in videos. First up is the first project for my class, my little fearful retro robot.

(Had to re-upload because of incorrect video file)

Next is my second project, the grumpy Dr. Eggplant. And to be fair, it's not exactly my best and could have done a whole lot better, especially knowing what I know now regarding rigging and model skinning.

Digital Cell 1 Animations pt.1

Finally got a hold of some of my projects from Digital Cell 1. They are a little unpolished for the moment, but with time, they will all be redone and presentable. Until then, enjoy what I have so far.

First animation I've ever done and in Flash too. Objective was the create animated piece of how to do something, whether serious or humorous.

Ferret character done in Toon Boom and the cat character in Flash. Main objective was to animate two characters talking in the same space. Dialogue taken from the film Knocked Up (which I haven't seen admittedly).

My final project for Digital Cell 1. We were free to do whatever theme or concept we wanted. Mine was personal as it represented some issues I was going through at the time (and still am). Done entirely in Toon Boom.

On a side note, I had done a third animation project for class, but it's an interactive animation. As such, either until I get my main art project site up or find a really good site for uploading flash files, it'll be awhile before it's seen.

3D Character Set-up and Animation Project 2

Another set of concept sketches from 3D Character Animation and Set-Up for project two. This time we had to design our own One-Eyed creature and choose a personality trait, and animating our character acting it out. I choose "grumpy/angry" for mine, and the final design is based on an eggplant. I call him "Dr. Eggplant" because it's so appropriate.

3D Character Set-Up and Animation Project 1

It's been a couple of weeks and I thought I'd show off some work from 3D Character Set-Up and Animation. First up is some concept sketches and one final character sketch of my first project. The objective was to design and animation a retro style robot acting out one principal trait. The trait I end up choosing was "fearful." Will post the full animation soon.

MLP:FIM - Return of the Great and Powerful Trixie

Done in honor of the new episode that just recently came out. Kind of cheated on the colors a bit because I wanted more darker values to invoke more dramatic look I was going for. And since this is more of a personal sketch challenge for me, I'd figured I just go for it. And I really like it came out.

Vritra Maquette - Progress Report

Still working on getting him done. Only just finished his neck a few days ago, and working on the rest of the details as I go. I hope to have him finished way before Christmas.

Monster Sketch Dump

Sorry it's been a while since I last posted some art. As finals draw near and my last SCAD quarter is coming to a close, I've been concentrating all my freetime and energy towards getting my Animation minor finished. But don't worry, after finals are over, I'll be posting my artwork and animations for all to see. But until then, here's some monsters because I've been on a monster drawing kick as of late.

Creature concepts plus my version of the Slenderman.

A extremely wellfed zombie cat-goat thing.

And harpies!

Vritra Maquette - Getting There

He's finally completely covered with sculpey! His feet were particularly a hassle to work on because of all the tight nooks and crannies. It was such a learning experience in figuring it out how to do it. Difficult, yes, but workable. One thing I've learn throughout the ordeal--work on the feet and claws first, and then rest will follow.

Quick turnaround of Vritra. He's looking good so far. Now to make him even more threatening.

Vritra Maquette - Beginning Stage

About last week or so, my good friend Alicia and I got together at my house and had a maquette making party, and of course, happily began working on our maquettes. Pictured here is a maquette of my character Vritra from my WIP graphic novel currently entitled The Guardians Trilogy. I wanted to do something a little different from the standard boring base and made an environment piece to correspond with my character. It's been turning out surprisingly well since it's my first time doing so.

Start of his wire skeleton:

Foiling up:

Laying down the sculpy (starting with the rock and then the rest of the character):

Finally got to wiring the feet (which took about a couple of days to do):

Finished all four. Onto putting sculpy on them.

The face will be next. Just slowly working my way through the other details.

Character Doodle - Wyatt

Another doodle based drawing, and this time is a longtime character of mine, a ferret named Wyatt. He is the main character of a series of children's graphic novel series I've been working on for over a ten years. Most of his story is still in development and have been constantly tweaking it on and off (he's even survived through several name changes), but I really like his character design so far. There will be more concept art from this project in the near future as I've been working on designs for the rest of the characters in the series. Until then, enjoy this first look at our mischievous troublemaker.

Adventure Time - Super High Five Time

Been awhile since I posted some art, mostly pertaining to sketches and finished artwork per week. And this week, I give you... Fionna and Cake, Finn and Jake's gender-flipped counterparts from Adventure Time!

Inspired by the episode "Five Short Garyables," specifically Finn and Jake pulling off the Super Ultimate High Five. I wanted to draw it, but this time with Fionna and Cake, and the end result is this.

Fleece Hat - Naga from Legend of Korra

Here's what I've been working on during my CA vacation (yes, really). A fleece hat of Naga, Korra's animal guide and constant companion from the Avatar sequel series "Legend of Korra." Finished it that Friday morning of SDCC weekend and wore it throughout the convention. This is actually the first fleece hat I've made and it turned out well, with some minor things I will change for the next time I make a few others.

And yes, I will be making more fleece hats, especially as I have plans to do other subjects for hats besides Naga. But this will only be strictly a hobby for me and not my main job. However, if you are interested in a Naga fleece hat or any fleece hat you would like for me to make, please feel free to contact me at melanee.wood@gmail.com for a commission price quote.

Aerial Show-Off Comic - Senior Project

Finally, here after stalling for a couple of months, that and it's just been busy in my life. Anyway, without further ado, here's my Senior Project comic, Aerial Show-Off, staring Sasha and Riley.

Quick Updates

Hi everyone. I just want to let you know, more art will be coming from me soon. Right now am on vacation and getting ready to head home, but first some quick announcements.

First off, I will be opening a store dedicated to all of the artwork and crafts I have made for sale, whether it be made-to-order products, readymades, or convention leftovers. Among them includes my "Taking Flight" mini-comic and a fleece hat I had made to wear at SDCC (photos to come). For those who have had a chance to see me at SDCC and are interested in either product, please feel free to email me at melanee.wood@gmail.com for more information.

Second is I'm working on a main website to showcase all of my projects, including information regarding the story, characters, their world, plus concept art, and eventual pages. My ultimate plan is to launch the site either by the end of this year or the beginning of next year. Don't worry, this site won't be neglected. I'll still post most if not all of my artwork here.

And finally, since I enjoy making craftwork, I'm thinking of the possibly of launching either a blogspot or tumblr just for those type of works. While I enjoy making things like hats and plushies, they are strictly a hobby of mine and not my actual job goal. As such, I want to keep my craftwork and my sequential art, illustrations, and maquettes separate from each other. I may post previews here from time to time, but I won't plan on making it a regular thing.

With that in mind, take care and I'll be back with more artwork.

MLP:FiM - Moonlit Metamorphosis

Another MLP: FiM piece, this time of one of my favorite characters of that series, Luna. Wanted to do some fan art of her as well as experiment with painting techniques in Photoshop (on top of doing as much artwork and comics as possible while on summer break to keep me active), and here's the end result. Overall, I am very pleased in how it turned out. I may do a companion piece featuring Princess Celestia, but that will be for another time.

Art Challenge - Princess Luna WIP

I will post my finished Senior Project pages soon. I promise. In the meantime, some artwork I've been working on for almost a couple of weeks. Basically, each week I do a personal sketch/art challenge for myself each week for the summer. My choice this week, Princess Luna from MLP:FiM. This is just a WIP image as I'm currently painting the piece. Expect it this weekendish if I get done with it on top a couple of projects I'm doing before going to SDCC.

End of the Quarter Hurdle Cleared

Welp, the end of the quarter is finally here. It's been a rough but over wise fun ride. Now that graduation is almost upon me (this fall actually), there's still a lot for me to do such as the great challenge of job hunting. That and keeping myself active in comics as often as possible.

Overall, I'm pleased the progress I've made and people I've had a pleasure to meet. I'll post my completed Senior Project comic, but here's my redesigned Sasha and Riley from my project "Aerial Aces" to tie you over.
