Advanced Inking - Where the Wild Things Are Pinup

My last decent work from Advanced Inking. Here's my marker render pin-up of Where the Wild Things Are. Primarily used Faber-Castells in varying sizes.

Advanced Inking - "Conquering the Dragon"

Since Fall Quarter is over, time to show some of my better work from Advanced Inking. First up is my four-page comic entitled "Conquering the Dragon." I feel I've come a long way since I've decided to heed my teacher's advice and step back to not overrender. And safe to say, I like the results and hope to get better, especially when inking my own stuff and potentially other works.

Digital Coloring - "Wrenched Prank"

I know Digital coloring class seems ages ago, but since I had yet to post my final project for that class, I thought I might as well post it finally. So without further ado, here's my three page comic featuring two of my characters, Riley and Bryce, from a personal project called "Aerial Aces." Riley was originally from my Character Design and Storyboarding for Animation class. In time, I hope to have a fully realized story for her and of course her friends and boss.

Advanced Inking - Reject Designs

Before I settled on the script I would be working on for the final project, my first idea involved two characters that basically existed since my Character Design class. The plot mostly consisted of the two trying to best each other in an extreme stunt, and then later was switched to the cheetah pilot (on the left) teaching the Tasmanian Tiger pilot (on the right) a lesson. Ultimately, I decided to forgo that idea for a better one, but not before doing some character designs in the process.

The cheetah pilot named Sasha and Riley, the Tasmanian Tiger pilot. I may continue redesigning them in the near future as I hope to do a series of stories about Riley's misadventures as a pilot.

Advanced Inking - Final Project Designs

Thought I would share some character designs for the short story final project for Advanced Inking as a preview.

The main character of my story named Lyda, who is a struggling writer trying to write a good story (sometime I'm sure anyone can relate to). Interestingly, I had a completely different vision of her character for another story I've been trying to work on. But for now, she's been modernized for the purposes of the project.

And the Dragon, the main antagonist, found within Lyda's dream. My initial design of him was very generic and so a scrapped it and came up with a design motif of torn paper, broken pencil leads & nibs, and scribbles in order to emphasis the dragon as a representation of "creative block."

Mini-Sketch Dump

Just thought I would show off some sketches from my now filled sketchbook which I had been drawing in since the beginning of 2009. Of course, for now, I'll try to post some recent sketches from there whenever I can.

First up, Aidan and Rory, my second gay couple other than Ian and Evan (my first and oldest pair). Still working out the designs for them, but I'm most happiest with Rory's design so far.

Next, the concepts for a new character who is a gypsy wizard. Don't ask me what his name is. I don't know yet. And I plan to make him one of the secondary character in another story of mine, which is untitled for the moment.

And Kurr, one of the characters from my story called The Guardians. It's just me redesigning him again since it's been awhile since I last drew him.

My little alter-ego/mascot, Rayne. While she'll still be a wolf/panther hybrid (for now), I wanted to update her form, so I thought why not a furry dragon?

Roxie, who is the main character from my four part story entitled A Spy Dog's Tale. She was originally a Begian Tervuren, but after much thought, I decided to make her an Australian Shepherd. While her breed may change, she still has the same personality.

And finally, some goofy doodles inspired by the comic I did for Visual Storytelling I (which I will post the pages soon by the way). Not going to speak of the context for the time being, but let's just say Vritra (my resident villain) is congratulating the demon character for eating someone.

Advanced Inking - Pinups part 1

It's almost halfway through the quarter and I thought I would go ahead and show off some artwork I've been working on for Advanced Inking. Mostly the pin-up illustrations using different inking techniques.

Devilman Pinup. Using PITT pens and Micron .05 and .02.

He-Man pinup. Using G-nibs and school nibs. Probably my best one so far (which isn't saying much for now), even though I still need a lot of practice as far as nibs go.

Adventure Time pinup! My favorite subject since I'm a fan of the show and I tend to be simplistic in terms of line marking in my own work. I used my trusty #3 round brush, which is my favorite along side markers. But like with the nibs, I need further practice. Still think I have my share of hits and misses.

Personal Art - Into the Shadows

Cliche title is cliche. Yeah, I know. Just thought I'll share some bit of artwork I did manage to do over the summer, featuring my favorite creepy original villain, Vritra, from my three novel (or possibly graphic novel) story entitled The Guardians.

Sketch Challenge - Power Girl

FINALLY! I did something for a Sketch Challenge for the Temple of Cartoon Mojo. For those who probably don't know what I'm talking about, Temple of Cartoon Mojo is a sort of club for all the Sequential Art majors and minors at SCAD Atlanta. I've always wanted to do a sketch challenge, but never had the time to do so. And finally I got a chance and this challenge--Power Girl from DC. Well, at least my rendition of Power Girl. Enjoy!

Concept Illustration - Small Dump

Another quarter gone for my time at SCAD, though wasn't really my best overall. But that's the subject for another time. Thought I share some artwork from conceptual illustration that I'm personally pleased with.

First up, my original characters for Job Two in which we had to come up with a story and the characters, vehicles, and environments for it. I chose to do two female bandits in which the core story was a competition gone wrong. For the concept, I went for a more sci-fi-ish twist for them and this was the result.
First is the land bandit who is more hotheaded of the two and is the main instigator of the competition.
The second one, I'm most happy with, is the aquatic bandit who is the more calm and cool of the two, but can't resist a little challenge every now and then.

Next is an environment from job one and definitely, the only one I'm somewhat happy with. It's based on the amazon river area where in my view amphibious beings lived similar to the tribes of South America. Granted it, I did needed to push that angle more, but that I'll do when I get the chance.

2D Animation - Small Dump

Thought I now show off a few pieces of animation I've done for 2D Animation. First one is the second project for the quarter, which is essentially animating two bouncing balls, one rubber and the other a ball of our choice.

The second is where we have to animate a character sidestepping over something. I chose my long time character Kanaye. Not my best animation so far, but it was one of my favorites.

Concept Illustration - Vehicles

Once again, but a long while since I last posted here. I promise to upload more art in the future, even if it's not all that impressive. Anyway, first up, my second project for Concept Illustration, which in all honesty, despite it being a difficult class, I rather enjoyed it.

Here's vehicle concepts. The objective was to design one that was mechanical and the other a biomechnical or a beast of burden. I went for a submarine and in relation to the sub, a jellyfish biotech. While I might get around to reworking them in the future, but for now, here's what I've got thus far, including some sketch studies for a design for each other. I have to say for the biotech, I did like the mola mola as well.
